Job Summary:

The Electrical Designer plays an essential role in the development and implementation of electrical systems and solutions across a wide range of projects. This position involves collaborating closely with engineers and project managers to create detailed electrical design drawings and specifications that meet the specific needs and standards of each project.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to all phases of projects from concept to design, build, start-up, installation and service.
  • Production of shop drawings
    • Using AutoCAD Electrical to modify existing drawings to reflect changes.
    • Create new electrical schematics, and create equipment layout and interconnection drawings.
  • Specifying components and creating bills of materials.
  • Project management
    • Assist the quality control staff with the preparation of test plans and procedures for each part of the electrical system.
    • Project related decision making based on risk, cost and schedule.
  • Programming of electronic devices
    • Motion control design and programming.
    • Modify, download and troubleshoot PLC logic and HMI applications.
    • Create a PLC logic program from scratch.
    • Create an HMI application from scratch.
  • Technical assistance
    • Assist shop personnel during manufacturing.
    • Support purchasing department with sourcing, pricing, etc.
    • Assist installation and service personnel to debug equipment.
    • Provide technical phone support to clients.
  • Assisting with the production of maintenance manuals using Microsoft word.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able and willing to travel internationally as required for onsite commissioning of equipment
  • Knowledge of closed-loop motion control, PID tuning, proportional hydraulic control
  • Understanding of Hydraulic systems and principals
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills for resolving the complexities associated with manufacturing customized material handling equipment
  • Appreciation for and expertise in design methodologies for conduit and wiring installations on equipment
  • Electrical troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent written and verbal  communications
  • Competency with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Familiarity with the requirements of ISO quality control systems
  • Rockwell Factory Talk
  • Proven ability to design electrical control systems for industrial machinery
  • Proficient in estimation, aiding the Application group by providing assessments of material costs and labor estimates
  • Insight gained from navigating the intricacies of coordinating electrical design alongside mechanical assemblies
  • Demonstrates positive mindset, exemplary dedication to work, taking pride in the excellence of output, eager and essential drive for perpetual learning
  • Enthusiastic team player who is accustomed to being on the shop floor supporting the controls department, while engaging in computer based design work and actively contributing during meetings
  • Adherence to company COVID policies.

Education and Experience:

  • Relevant Post Secondary Education with a preference in Electrical Engineering or P.Eng an asset
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years  experience
  • Programming experience with Rockwell PLC,HMI platforms, and all Siemens PLC
  • Experience with
    • GuardLogix PLC platform and ControlLogix PLC platform
    • Designing and commissioning lifting/hoisting machines.
    • Troubleshooting and commissioning Hydraulic systems
    • AutoCad Electrical
  • Previous experience with any or all of the following standards:
    • Canadian Electrical code
    • National Electrical code (USA), NFPA 79, ISO 13849, CSA Z432.
