Job Opportunity: Senior Project Manager – Installations
Reports To: Manager of Projects and Engineering
Location: Remote.  Onsite Grimsby/Hamilton – as required to support handoff and preparations.

Job Summary:

The Project Manager is responsible for leading teams to deliver the project(s) that span across one or more business units. Manage resources, schedules, and financials, and adhere to stage gate quality.  This also includes management of issues, risks, and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery. Contribute to process improvement initiatives as it relates to improving project delivery.

The Project Manager has the authority to run the Installation component of a project on a day-to-day basis. Verify that the project produces the required deliverables of quality, within the specified constraints of time and cost, and achieves the potential benefits defined in the business case.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities for Assigned Internal Projects:

  • Review project objectives and metrics, with the team, at the onset of new projects.
  • Work with Engineering staff and Project PM to develop appropriate Acceptance Test Plans and methods of measurement.
  • Re-assess schedule and cost targets regularly. Initiate corrective actions as needed. Document and monitor objectives to ensure countermeasures are initiated and unfavorable variances are corrected.
  • Elevate issues as appropriate and get the support of senior management when needed to clear obstacles.
  • Work on specific projects as directed from time to time in support of the Senior Manager.

Principal Responsibilities for Assigned off-site Activities:

  • Coordinate Installation or off-site activities with the appropriate managers.
  • Manage the installation of equipment including careful planning, execution, and adherence to safety protocols to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the machinery.
    • This activity may include selection and/or management outside contractors
    • Planning of activities with client personnel
  • Assess the equipment specifications, site conditions, and any necessary permits. This includes understanding customer interfaces, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and environmental requirements.   Communicate any unusual environmental conditions that may affect installation.
  • Attend in-shop [HSML] final commissioning and FAT.
  • Create Site Acceptance Test [SAT] documents and reports as required.
  • Create Installation Plans: Develop a detailed plan that outlines the timeline, resources needed, and potential challenges. Involve all relevant stakeholders to ensure everyone is aligned. 
  • Site Preparation:  Ensure the installation site is free of obstructions and well-organized. Allocate adequate space for the equipment and consider access for maintenance.
  • Facilitate entrance Visas and/or all site access requirements/training for the installation team.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for HSML site technicians through the client Administrator
  • Monitor, approve and submit time sheets and expenses for onsite HSML Technicians.
  • Screening and selecting contractors as required.  This may require services outside of the installation.  Manufacturing services, machining services, procurement of items locally.
  • Travel to site for pre-installation visits as required.
  • Planning daily installation activities, including client activities and 3rd party contractors.
  • On site support of the off-site activity.
  • Provide weekly report on the status of each project – schedule, cost, issues, and actions.
  • Serve as the lead in customer communications for key areas including timing, documentation, and overall project status.
  • Manage client expectations while protecting our financial and business interests.
  • Ensure records of key transactions with customers and suppliers are maintained, either in the project database or in the areas of the responsible departments.
  • Ensure the financial success of the project. Identify concerns that jeopardize profitability and seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Liaise with internal PM as required to manage change orders.
  • Travel to site for final commissioning and site acceptance tests.  Come home with a clean sign off.
  • Extensive Domestic and International travel may be required depending on the projects assigned.  Ability to travel minimum 50% of the year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent client facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent Contract Management experience
  • Functional leadership experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing role
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Team player and have a problem-solving aptitude
  • A valid passport and the ability to travel without restrictions is required.
  • Carry a class “G” (or equivalent) driver’s license with the ability to provide a Valid clear driver’s abstract within thirty (30) days of hire date

Education and Experience:

  • Relevant Post Secondary Education; CET or P. Eng an asset
  • Ten (10) years’ experience with the design & building of large, complex industrial equipment
  • Demonstrated experience of having developed and successfully managed a project from cradle to grave
  • Experience in Project management with demonstrated leadership in high-impact situations
  • Experience managing equipment installations an asset
  • Familiar with ISO9001 Quality Management Systems
  • PMP certification is an asset.
