Overview
Handling Specialty custom engineered and manufactured a rotator that was used in an automotive laboratory wind testing system, where different car models were driven onto the rotator/turntable and then turned to face the wind tunnel while various tests were being conducted.
Critical to the solution was that the rotator did not move when subject to the different environments imposed on it during testing so as not to affect results. The top of the rotator was manufactured in two pieces to fit the client’s existing facility layout.
Handling Specialty’s turntables are very dependable and rugged machines requiring minimum maintenance. Turntables are available with an assortment of standard and optional accessories to suit each customer’s needs. Handling Specialty turntables are designed for rotary positioning of equipment and materials in a wide variety of industrial settings. Two types of actuation are used to power Handling Specialty turntables. The first uses an electric motor to drive the turntable through the gear on the center-mounted slewing ring. The second type uses a hydraulic power unit to supply oil to a hydraulic motor that drives the slewing ring.
