Job Opportunity: Senior Mechanical Designer
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Location: Grimsby/Hamilton Ontario

As a key member of the Engineering team, you will support the achievement of the following team goals:

  • Generate robust engineered designs, with a keen emphasize on manufacturability, budget, and schedule
  • Strive to minimize and eliminate non-conformances [NCR] through continuous improvement
  • Contribute to project success by supporting the manufacturing and project management teams

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design responsibilities include:
    • Static structure design
    • Materials selection
    • Machine dynamics
    • Fabrication design
    • Power transmission component selection
    • Design validation
    • Preparation of drawing packages
    • BOM creation
    • Acceptance test procedure creation
    • Project documentation
  • Design within defined project technical requirements, budgets and timelines
  • Work utilizing Handling Specialty and applicable industry standards
  • Support the engineering team to develop quality technical solutions
  • Mentor and guide junior designers and engineers on best practices and design standards
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to ensure design intent is met through the development process.
  • Peer technical review of engineering drawings, calculations, and other related documentation
  • Project technical liaison between engineering and manufacturing at both Handling Specialty manufacturing facilities (Grimsby and Hamilton)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with Simulation desirable
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • Proficient with MSOffice suite
  • Demonstrated design experience with hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems, manufacturability, fabrication processes and GD&T.
  • Proficient with performing calculations pertaining to machine design (speed, force, torque, power, pressure, etc.)
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative and analytical thinker, with strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, able to work individually and as part of a team

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience in designing custom industrial equipment.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) considered an asset but not required
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 certified environment an asset

Working Conditions:

  • Position is full time at both HSML Grimsby & Hamilton plants based on location of project builds
