Job Opportunity: Senior Mechanical Designer
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Location: Grimsby/Hamilton Ontario

As a key member of the Engineering team, you will support the achievement of the following team goals:
- Generate robust engineered designs, with a keen emphasize on manufacturability, budget, and schedule
- Strive to minimize and eliminate non-conformances [NCR] through continuous improvement
- Contribute to project success by supporting the manufacturing and project management teams
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design responsibilities include:
- Static structure design
- Materials selection
- Machine dynamics
- Fabrication design
- Power transmission component selection
- Design validation
- Preparation of drawing packages
- BOM creation
- Acceptance test procedure creation
- Project documentation
- Design within defined project technical requirements, budgets and timelines
- Work utilizing Handling Specialty and applicable industry standards
- Support the engineering team to develop quality technical solutions
- Mentor and guide junior designers and engineers on best practices and design standards
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to ensure design intent is met through the development process.
- Peer technical review of engineering drawings, calculations, and other related documentation
- Project technical liaison between engineering and manufacturing at both Handling Specialty manufacturing facilities (Grimsby and Hamilton)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with Simulation desirable
- Proficient with AutoCAD
- Proficient with MSOffice suite
- Demonstrated design experience with hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems, manufacturability, fabrication processes and GD&T.
- Proficient with performing calculations pertaining to machine design (speed, force, torque, power, pressure, etc.)
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Creative and analytical thinker, with strong problem-solving skills
- Strong Interpersonal skills, able to work individually and as part of a team
Education and Experience:
- Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience in designing custom industrial equipment.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) considered an asset but not required
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 certified environment an asset
Working Conditions:
- Position is full time at both HSML Grimsby & Hamilton plants based on location of project builds
