Overview

This heavy-duty custom scissor lift was created for the material handling and storage of airplane/helicopter assembly fixtures and parts.  The lift travels horizontally along a 250-foot track with racking situated on either side.  The top of the platform is a gravity conveyor comprised of dual chain pullers, a roller platform, and v tracks for moving parts into and out of the storage racking at various heights.  Propelling the lift are four independent but synchronised two-speed motors which are directly coupled to the wheel cubes.  Dual operating push button control stations allow the unit to be operated from either side.  Vertical movement of the lift is accomplished via a double set of hydraulically actuated scissors.

Safety was an important consideration in the design of this lift.  Photo eye sensors have been placed with the beams travelling along the front and back lengths of the lift.  When a beam is broken, the lift comes to a complete stop.

This lift was actually ordered as a replacement for one originally designed and built by Handling Specialty over 20 years ago.  The original lift is a testament to the quality and durability of Handling Specialty’s custom lift equipment — it is still in working condition and will be kept as a backup.
