The Electrical Designer – Service Specialist plays an essential role in the development and implementation of electrical systems and solutions across a wide range of projects. This position involves collaborating closely with engineers and project managers to create detailed electrical design drawings and specifications that meet the specific needs and standards of each project.

Electrical Design Responsibilities:

Contribute to all phases of projects from concept to design, build, start-up, installation and service.

Production of shop drawings:

  • Using a CAD software package to modify existing drawings to reflect changes
  • Create new electrical schematics, and create equipment layout and interconnection drawing Specifying components and creating bills of materials

Project management:

  • Assist the quality control staff with the preparation of test plans and procedures for each part of the electrical system
  • Project related decision making based on risk, cost and schedule.

Programming of electronic device:

  • Motion control design and programming
  • Modify, download and troubleshoot PLC logic and HMI applications
  • Create a PLC logic program from scratch
  • Create an HMI application from scratch

Technical assistance:

  • Assist shop personnel during manufacturing
  • Support purchasing department with sourcing, pricing, etc.
  • Assist installation and service personnel to debug equipment
  • Provide technical phone support to clients
  • Assisting with the production of maintenance manuals using Microsoft word

Service Specialist Responsibilities:

The Service Specialist shall support the Parts and Service department in all areas pertaining to customer support, service inquires and standard part orders. Duties shall include, but not limited to:

Provide timely support for incoming warranty calls

  • Deciphering the issues, researching for and providing resolution over the phone or developing action plans.
  • Developing engineering solutions.
  • Discusses the technical aspects of the problem with customer directly.
  • Troubleshooting electrical issues on new and legacy equipment
  • Providing technical write ups and report writing explaining the issue or resolution with proper terminology.
  • Ensuring that proper parts are purchased in support of service projects.
  • Expediting the receipt of parts to support a service work order or project
  • Assisting and supporting site personnel as required.
  • Required to travel to customer locations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able and willing to travel nationally and internationally as required for onsite commissioning of equipment – approximately 40% of time
  • A valid passport and the ability to travel without restrictions as required
  • Carry a Class “G” Drivers license with the ability to provide a Valid clear driver’s abstract within thirty (30) days of hire date.
  • Occasionally, remote work from home may be necessary; home office equipped with reliable, unlimited, high-speed internet access.
  • Good attitude, strong work ethic, pride in the quality of work produced, a willingness and need to continually learn new things
  • Team player who is accustomed to being on the floor helping out the controls department, at a computer designing or contributing in a meeting
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Analytical and technical skills will be required to find solutions to the challenges of manufacturing custom material handling equipment.
  • A self starter who must able to multi-task with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge stemming from experiences in balancing electrical design work in conjunction with mechanical assemblies
  • Respect for even design methodologies for conduit and wiring runs on equipment
  • Electrical troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Familiarity with the requirements of ISO quality control systems
  • Proven ability to design electrical control systems for industrial machinery.

Education and Experience:

  • Relevant Post Secondary Education with a preference in Electrical Engineering or P.Eng an asset
  • A minimum of 7 years of proven related experience
  • Programming experience with Rockwell PLC,HMI platforms, and all Siemens PLC
  • Experience with GuardLogix PLC platform and ControlLogix PLC platform
  • Experience designing and commissioning lifting/hoisting machines
  • Troubleshooting and commissioning Hydraulic systems
  • AutoCad Electrical experience

Previous experience with the following standards:

  • Canadian Electrical code
  • National Electrical code (USA), NFPA 79, ISO 13849, CSA Z432.
