Overview
Handling Specialty was chosen for this tradeshow display project due to the company’s technical expertise and a strong portfolio of successful custom entertainment applications. Handling supplied two custom lifts that were mounted onto custom rotators manufactured by the client OEM firm for the display of the Hummer H2 at major auto shows during 2002.
To fulfill the motion requirements of the end user, the scissors lift turntable operates according to an automatic control program. A PLC controls the variable speed drive (which ramps the acceleration/deceleration of the lift as it rises), the proportional control valves used to lower the lift, and the variable speed AC drive, which powers the turntable. The PLC receives its signals from an off-board audio-video controller supplied by the end user, which also controls smoke and light effects.
One programmed display cycle for the turntable includes rotating the Hummer H2 for 3 minutes at the lift’s top elevation of 108”, rotating for 5 minutes at a 60” elevation, and then circling for an additional 5 minutes with the lift fully collapsed. At the discretion of booth personnel, this program can be manually overridden via a pendant box that permits the operator to utilize each of the display functions individually. The dynamic capacity of this custom display equipment is 8,000 lbs.
